Dear readers, I want to share with you my most favorite books by American writers.
1. RAMONA HOULIGAN

ABOUT WHAT?
The daily life of a little mischievous Ramona - a student of the preparatory class of an ordinary American school in the middle of the 20th century.
WHY WILL THE CHILD LIKE IT?
The child will be attracted by the bright image of the main character. Ramona the bully is not a little lady. At the holiday, she wants to be the scariest witch, during breaks she runs around the yard, scares the boy she likes with an earthworm wedding ring and cannot resist "bonking" the curls of a classmate. Ramona is not a slob, she knows how to put aside her opinion and does not seek to do something bad on purpose. It somehow comes out by itself.
The book describes the life of an American schoolgirl in a very entertaining and detailed way. The first day of school, full of new impressions, the first independent trip to school, a show-tell lesson, running through puddles in new pretty boots, a school holiday and many other insignificant, but important events from the life of a child.
WHY SHOULD A PARENT BE INTERESTED?
The book describes in great detail the world of a little man trying to understand the rules of adult life. She speaks to the child in his language and answers those questions that adults will not ask, but are of interest to all children. For example, how did Michael Mulligan, the hero of a story that the teacher read in class, go to the toilet while working all day on an excavator?
Children will understand and be familiar with situations of misunderstanding when communicating with adults. The teacher tells Ramona that if she takes a certain place in the class, there will be a gift (in the sense that she will be very pleased). Ramona, on the other hand, is waiting for a gift in the literal sense and is disappointed when she learns the truth. The children in the class sing a hymn with the words "Oh, dawn early light", Ramona hears "dawn is not light", but she has no doubt that the song may be about something other than the mysterious dawn.
The clockwork inventor Ramona is not so easy to get used to the team of adults and children, but the understanding and love of relatives and friends, the participation of a young teacher help her to survive and remain the same pretty, cheerful and creative.
NATIONAL SPECIFICS
The capitalist world in which Ramona's family lives will probably be closer and more understandable to a modern child than the world of the traditional Soviet school of the same time.
2. POLLYANNA
Eleanor Porter

ABOUT WHAT?
A philosophical story about a cheerful girl who is able to awaken the brightest and most joyful feelings in others.
WHY WILL THE CHILD LIKE IT?
A classic story about an orphan who, after the death of her father, is forced to move in with an unsociable callous aunt. Thanks to kindness, openness, and a positive attitude, she manages to find new friends and win her aunt's heart, and even arrange her happiness.
Pollyana knows the secret of happiness that helps her in difficult times, it is a game of joy that her father, a priest, taught her. Its meaning is to rejoice at what happens, knowing that it could be worse. They gave you crutches instead of a doll - to be glad that you don't need them. This must be done diligently and sincerely.
WHY SHOULD A PARENT BE INTERESTED?
Polllyanna's philosophy of life found a wide response from readers. The "Pollyanna principle" is known in psychology.
"Pollyanna" is very popular abroad and in Russia. There are several screen adaptations, performances based on the plot of the famous book are staged in the Youth Theaters.
NATIONAL SPECIFICS
The psychology of the book is interesting, but it is a little alien to me personally. If you follow it unquestioningly, you can put up with the most difficult conditions and sit idly by when it would be worth acting.
3. THE ADVENTURES OF HOMER PRICE
Robert Maklossky

ABOUT WHAT?
A humorously described life of a boy from a small provincial town in the decaying west.
WHY WILL THE CHILD LIKE IT?
Have you heard about how to solve a theft with a pet skunk? How to stop a donut machine that has gone crazy and can't stop? What to do if you can't get rid of a pestering song? And what if all the inhabitants of the town sing this song and can't stop? And what kind of song is this (spoiler - it's really hard to get rid of it)? What to do if rare seeds have given giant shoots that have grown to the sky and threaten the city? How to win a rope collecting competition?
WHY SHOULD A PARENT BE INTERESTED?
The book is very funny and easy, you yourself will read it with pleasure. The author exposes stupid, empty provincials with their petty interests, bringing the situation to the point of absurdity.
NATIONAL SPECIFICS
The capitalist world is presented in all its glory with the triumph of consumption, dodgy marketing and other modern realities.
4. THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER
Mark Twain
Age: 9-12 years old
ABOUT WHAT?
A classic adventure story about a free boyish life in the United States in the 1840s.
WHY WILL THE CHILD LIKE IT?
The world of Tom Sawyer is full of real adventures. Night trips to the cemetery, escape from home, wandering through caves, confrontation with the evil and dangerous Indian Joe. In Tom's life, there is a place for true friendship, first love, tricks and pranks, boring studies and an independent wild life.
WHY SHOULD A PARENT BE INTERESTED?
The book rightfully belongs to the classics of world children's literature. Acquaintance with Tom Sawyer and his friends will not only entertain the child, but also give a good lesson in the history of life and morals.

5. SERDTSE TREH
Jack London

Young brave heroes in the company of a beautiful girl are exposed on their way to dangers worthy of Indiana Jones. A harmonious combination of ancient Indian curses, mortal danger, passionate love will capture the attention of a teenager, and he will devour the book in a couple of days.
