Assembling wooden jigsaw puzzles: how to choose a successful puzzle and tools for working with it

The complexity and interest of the puzzle is determined by many factors. To choose a painting for yourself, be sure to consider the following criteria:

  • Attractiveness of the drawing. Try to choose an image that is pleasant to admire and that you want to keep as a painting. This will encourage the assembly process.
  • Complexity of the drawing. The most complex options are paintings with an abundance of small details that differ little in color, or large pieces with monochromatic space (sky, water, grass). An ideal choice for beginners - something in between the two options described. The drawing should have a lot of bright, contrasting, sufficiently large details. The parrots that you see below will be difficult to collect - it will take about 6 hours.
  • The size of the painting that should be obtained after assembly. Keep in mind that the surface on which you assemble the mosaic should be twice as large. Otherwise, it will be difficult and inconvenient to assemble.
  • The size of the elements. Let's imagine a picture of 48 by 34 cm. It can be divided into either 250 or 500 parts. The second option is much more difficult and longer to assemble. If you want to grow in the skill of assembling wooden jigsaw puzzles, you can order the same puzzle of different sizes from us - from S, where there are 108 pieces, to KS - 306 pieces. Note that in each mosaic the number of details is different.
  • Quality. It is important that the puzzle pattern is printed well, and the bottom layer of the lining is dense enough. Thanks to this, it is easier to match wooden jigsaw puzzles to each other, connect them, and reuse them. That is why we make only wooden jigsaw puzzles - the most convenient to work with and durable to store.
  • Availability of a sample. To quickly assemble the puzzle, it is important to see a sample painting in front of you. That is why we produce boxes not only with beautiful samples, but also a special stand for them - to make it even more convenient to check.
  • Age. Our wooden jigsaw puzzles are suitable for absolutely everyone. However, for children, we recommend choosing smaller paintings, with fewer details.
  • If you decide to seriously engage in wooden jigsaw puzzles, we recommend purchasing the necessary accessories. In particular, a puzzle mat may come in handy.

    How to assemble a puzzle quickly: instructions for beginners

    There is a whole technique dedicated to the process of assembling complex wooden jigsaw puzzles from a large number of elements. However, keep in mind: even working according to the method, it will take a lot of time to assemble a large painting with a large number of elements - our largest and most complex paintings are assembled up to 6 hours. However, the instructions below will help you avoid snags, set up your personal system of work and allow you to move towards the completion of the drawing in small targeted steps.

    Preparation for assembly

    We recommend that you choose a convenient place for assembly in advance: allocate a table to the puzzle on which no one will touch its parts, or a similar corner of the floor. If there is no flat surface, use a puzzle mat by laying it on a carpet. Keep in mind that the base for the wooden jigsaw puzzles must be perfectly flat, otherwise, due to the distortions of the surface, it will seem to you that the puzzle pieces do not fit together.

    Getting Started

    Pour all the elements out of the box and turn them over face so that you can see the colors and details. Your next steps:

    1. Sort the elements of the picture frame. Almost all of our wooden jigsaw puzzles have visually noticeable edges with a colored border - you can focus on them. When working with paintings without smooth edges, skip this stage.
    2. Divide the remaining elements either by color or by the details of the drawing – for example, eyes, water, greenery, sky.

    Proven assembly technique

    Let's start the actual process of working on the picture:

    1. Assemble the frame. The number of frame elements is limited, therefore, focusing on the template of the picture on the box and the size of the wooden jigsaw puzzles, you can easily make a rectangle or the shape that your mosaic has.
    2. Assemble individual parts of the drawing that are similar in color and shape. Focus on the largest parts of the picture - a waterfall, a river, a house. Assemble individual characters, after which it will be easier for you to make a full-fledged canvas from such pieces. Complex parts, such as the sky, the sail of the yacht, leave for later.
    3. Arrange the assembled parts as they are in the illustration and complete the assembly. Once you've framed all the characters, it's easy to fill the gap between them with the remaining pieces. The predominant colors will be a clue.

    The technique of working with the most complex wooden jigsaw puzzles with one single character in the form of an animal will be slightly different. To assemble them, move from one recognizable element – an animal's eye, a branch on which a peacock sits, a fox's nose, a detail you like, the shape of an animal – and then add new elements in a circle. Sorting the puzzle pieces by color also works here.

    Where to put the assembled wooden jigsaw puzzles

    Paintings from our wooden jigsaw puzzles in the interior are one of the trends in modern design. You can put the assembled picture on the table and cover it with glass on top, frame it to hang on the wall, or attach it to the wall using our special gluing system.
    Complete with gluing you will get:

    1. a cardboard base for turning the mosaic;
    2. special adhesive stickers for attaching the base to the table;
    3. stickers for holding the puzzle pieces (3 sheets) – glue three mosaics at once with one set;
    4. glue patches for attaching the puzzle to the desired surface - to the wall, door;
    5. Instruction.

    The whole process of fixing the assembled puzzle on adhesive tape requires 8 simple steps:

    Attach the cardboard backing to the table surface.
    With careful, unhurried movements, move the puzzle from the table to the substrate.
    Turn the puzzle face down.
    Apply adhesive film to the back of the mosaic as shown.
    Smooth the film over the surface of the mosaic so that it adheres well and holds all the details.
    Using a utility knife, remove the edges of the film.
    Glue the nickels to the film.
    Attach the painting to the wall or any other surface of your choice.
    Buy gluing system from Unidragon
    In just a few minutes you will get an amazingly beautiful and extraordinary picture. It can also be used as a gift for friends. But it is better to give the puzzle disassembled so that they can also enjoy the assembly process.
