15 Tips to Read More and Enjoy Yourself
Many residents of modern cities live at such speeds that they do not have enough time to read. And we think it's sad. We've put together 15 tips to help you read more good books.
Tip No 1. It is useful to read before going to bed. Develop the habit of devoting at least 30 minutes before bed to reading. Do not exhaust yourself in the evening with scientific or specialized literature. It is better to unload your tense brain with a fiction book.
Tip No 2. A universal reading option is an audiobook. Such a book can be read anywhere: while driving, while jogging in the morning, etc.
Tip No 3. A book should accompany you everywhere. At any unexpected moment in time, we may have an extra minute to read: while traveling on public transport, in a queue at the doctor's office, etc.
Tip No 4. Think about what you read. Conscious reading significantly improves its quality, and therefore you can even try to answer in writing what the book taught you, what questions you received answers to, what new questions arose before you after reading. It is better to think deeply about one book than to skim through ten.
Tip No 5. The daily routine should include a reading break. This useful break should take at least half an hour.
Tip No 6. Quickly put aside uninteresting literature. If after a few pages you realize that the book is useless for you, give up empty reading. A million useful informative books are waiting for you, which will make you more intelligent, professional and bring much more benefit. A special exception may be classical literature, whose value has been tested by more than one generation of readers and critics.
Tip No 7. Create lists of books. Include in them the literature you have already read and those books that you consider necessary to read. Try not to limit your motivation to inflating the second list, but grow it along with the growth of the first list.
Tip No 8. Don't compete in reading books. It is very important to set as an end not the number of books read, but the quality of their reading, the process of self-development through reading, learning new information, and gaining meaningful experience.
Tip No 9. Enter the environment of book lovers. Live communication with like-minded people in some book club, at library events will be a great incentive to new literary discoveries.
Tip No 10. Memorize the quotes you like. Often people copy and save phrases they like from books. Subsequently, many significant words get into the list of forgotten ones. Therefore, it is better not to copy interesting quotes, but to memorize them. You can think about situations in which this or that phrase could be useful, or insert it in a place where it would come in handy (in the caption to a video, in a letter, ad, etc.).
Tip No 11. Headphones for "cover". The use of headphones is especially important when reading in public. For example, you can turn on music without words as a background and thus be less distracted from reading by extraneous sounds. Or you can simply wear headphones, which will serve as a signal to others that you are busy and at the same time drown out unnecessary sounds made by the environment.
Tip No 12. Leave reviews for books. Your feedback on the literature you have read will help to consolidate the received material in memory and allow other readers to navigate when choosing a book.
Tip No 13. Make the most of the time allotted for reading. This means that while reading, it is harmful to be distracted or to allow other people and circumstances to distract you. Others should realize that you do not consider reading to be a form of entertainment, which means that this process should not be interrupted and interrupted for "more important things." Reading a book is the most important thing at this point in time.
Tip No 14. Learn to highlight the main idea. The main idea is the dominant of the read piece - a paragraph, a chapter, a volume, a literary work as a whole. Practice briefly formulating the dominant idea after each paragraph. Over time, this process will take place in parallel with the reading itself.
Tip No 15. Enjoy the convenience of a bookstand. Currently, convenient stands are produced, both for paper and e-books. In the latter case, they look like covers that are convenient to unfold in different ways. A comfortable stand takes the strain off both eyes and hands due to the stable surface, which means you can read longer.
